It’s too windy and rainy to play outside, I’ve got a hacking cough, and my kid is jumping from couch to couch…I know I’m not the only one. My top pick for rainy day adventures is a visit to the Palisades Mall, about 30 minutes from Manhattan.
My view of spending the day in a mall has come a long way. I live in NYC so visiting a mall is a novelty, but it’s more than that, malls have changed a lot over the years. I spent an entire day at Palisades Mall with my family without stepping foot into a retail store and made memories to cherish for years to come.
Billy Beez, located in the mall, is an indoor play space. The sheer size of this space, 26,000 square feet, along with its range of physical activities and intricate colorful obstacles easily top a kids wish list. Click here for full review.
Food Court, Ferris Wheel & Carousel
There is a large Ferris wheel at one end of the food court and a charming double-decker carousel at the other end. It feels more like you’re at an amusement park than a mall.
The main food court at the Palisades Center has your typical mall restaurant options but there is also a nice range of higher-end restaurants. The food court offers a fun opportunity for everyone to pick their own restaurant yet still have a meal together.
Palisades Ice Rink
The Palisades Center Ice Rink, also in the mall, is a huge facility and open to the public. We didn’t ice skate but we walked right in and took a seat on the bleachers and watched people skate for a while. It was a nice break from all the walking we were doing. It was quite chilly so keep a jacket with you if you want to visit the rink. They offer public skate hours, private lessons and private events. Their rates are reasonable and their ice quality was impressive. It has also recently been renovated and feels nice and new.
Palisades Climb Adventure
The Palisades Climb Adventure is the world’s tallest indoor ropes obstacle course right in the middle of the mall. While climbing you’re surrounded by people walking around shopping and gawking at teetering participants on tightropes and planks. It was a very surreal experience, but was so awesome! After playing at Billy Beez and the Palisades Climb, we were ready to call it a day and head home. But not before taking note of all the things we still wanted to come back and try:
- Build A Bear Workshop
- Rock-climbing wall and laser tag at New York Sports Club
- Lucky Strike Lanes bowling alley
- Dave & Busters
- AMC Theatres
- Imax Theater
- Levity Live Comedy Club
Palisades Mall is an awesome family adventure destination. We can’t wait to return for more fun…and I have to admit, I can’t wait to go back to actually shop.
