One of my favorite getaways is just a 2 hour drive from Manhattan, to the sleepy town of Mt Tremper, NY. We stay at the Emerson Resort and Spa, which is nestled in the Castskill Mountains and overlooks the Esopus Creek. This resort not only has an incredible Eastern-inspired spa, plush suites as well as an Adirondack-style lodge (all 5-star) but it welcomes dogs so our pug, Bertha always joins us.
There is enough onsite this 20-acre property to keep you occupied between it’s two restaurants, an outdoor pool, an exclusive spa, a collection of shops and my favorite, the World’s Largest Kaleidoscope. This Kaleidoscope stands over 60 feet high, using a former silo as it’s housing. A specially designed audio and video show presented within the Kaleidoscope allows you to make the most of your experience – this is shown at multiple times throughout the day.
If you care to explore beyond the property you’re in luck. There is year-round activities all nearby. These include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, swimming, waterfalls, boating, fishing, water tubing, horseback riding, zipline adventures, and much more. Or you can leisurely stroll through the charming nearby towns of Phoenicia, Woodstock or Saugeries.
Our favorite activity off property is Kaaterskill falls, an ambition hike to stunning falls, the highest in NY State. Phoenicia diner is a must-eat and Woodstock’s charms leave you planning your next visit to Emerson Resort and Spa.
Be sure to call the resort to see if there are any current promotions, there often are: (845) 688-2828
Amenities include free WiFi, an acclaimed spa with 10 treatment rooms, a 1,500 sq. ft. fitness center offering classes and a seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub. There are also multiple shops and dining options, plus 3 meeting rooms.
