This may just be the best escape from NYC! We took our 7 year old daughter and her 7 year old best friend to Pine Ridge Dude Ranch this past weekend – and had perhaps the best weekend getaway ever. We enjoyed:
horseback riding • archery • indoor swimming • pool slides • pool inflatables • board games • bingo • derby racing • petting zoo • corn hole • roasting marshmallows • bouncing on an air pillow • arcade • line dancing lessons • live music • end of the day raffle …and more we just couldn’t fit in (like fishing, paddle boats, hand ball, rock climbing wall, basketball and other daily activities that change).

We arrived on a Friday evening and went straight to the all-inclusive dining room where we enjoyed a good dinner including a vegan option. The wait staff was incredibly friendly – we had the same table and server the remainder of our stay. From there we checked into our room where the kids found their bunk beds and my boyfriend and I had a king and queen bed to choose from. The room was huge. I have a physical disability and occasionally need a wheelchair, there was plenty of room to accommodate this, although I did not need it. The ranch itself was fairly accessible and I could definitely go if I needed my wheels. After dinner we explored the grounds, pet some horses, swam in the pool, jumped on the air pillow, roasted marshmallows and listened to live music while watching the kids dance their hearts out.

Saturday and Sunday we all woke early each morning and  filled our days doing both ‘pony rides’ which are on full size horses as well as Jr. wrangler sessions where the kids were taught how to lead a horse and follow commands. We spent time playing with goats and chickens in the petting zoo, learning archery, inflatable bull riding on in the pool, bingo and so much more. All meals were done in the same dining room which overlooks the ranch. Restaurant times are clear so it’s easy to arrange your day around these, and if you miss it you can always get something from the snack bar for a small fee. This ranch caters to all ages, so there is something on the menu for everyone as well as activities for everyone. Our last day, Sunday, it rained but we still easily filled our day with fun.

I think my favorite part was archery. My boyfriend loved the pool bull riding and the kids can’t make up their minds they just keep asking when we can go back.

The resort is very clean, the staff is incredibly friendly and biggest surprise of all, it’s affordable compared to other all-inclusive dude ranches. It’s been under new ownership for a year and they have instilled a wonderful friendly culture that is contagious. We not only became friends with other guests but the employees too.

Tips:

  • Bring bathing suits
  • Bring extra shoes in case it’s muddy
  • Pool towels are provided but bring water shoes
  • Cowboy boots and hat are a plus
  • Bring bug spray and sun screen depending on season
  • Sweatshirts are needed in spring and fall as it gets cool in Catskills
  • Bring singles to tip the workers
  • Cute gift store for souvenirs
