We love New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) and have a unique experience with each visit.

This year we made our annual visit to see Gingerbread lane, which we enjoy every year but we also took a gingerbread making workshop which the kids loved. We started our visit at the Gingerbread Lane display. Each of these edible cottages is conceptualized, baked and decorated by chef Jon Lovitch, who works on these all year. Gingerbread Lane has won the Guinness World Record for largest gingerbread village in both 2013, 2014, 2015 and hopefully again in 2016.

It was definitely charming to see and the sweet smells of candy and gingerbread linger in the air while you marvel over the miniature village. But the gingerbread making workshop took the cake! This 45 minute experience was a sweet mess and the kids loved it. Click here to register for a class.

Here’s a video of our fun morning:

If you haven’t been to NYSCI before, there are many floors of interactive activities geared towards a huge range of ages, it’s one of my favorite museums in NYC. We spent a lot of our time in a section called Design Lab, which is a large room with multiple workshops where you’re allowed to create/invent something. We also spent a lot of time in the Preschool Place where all three kids in our group, all ages 5 and under had a blast. It was a very cold day so we stayed inside but there is a mini golf course and in my opinion NYC’s best playground on the grounds of the museum. There were also areas we still didn’t explore within the museum like Connected Worlds and some other interactive areas. There’s definitely enough to keep us coming back.

Tips:

  • Stroller friendly
  • Coat check
  • Cafe with a large assortment of foods for kids and adults
  • Multiple bathrooms
  • Areas of activities for ages ranging from birth thru adults
  • Great membership perks
