One of my favorite indoor play spaces to visit is Billy Beez, located in the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, NY, about 30 minutes north of NYC. This is really a remarkable facility in size, range of physical activities and cleanliness. All week schools in the area have been closed for winter break and it seems everyone had the same idea as us, to visit during this time. But since it’s 26,000 square feet of space, it was still manageable, no long lines once you enter and a heck of a lot of fun.

Billy Beez is really the gold standard of indoor play spaces. When you pay admission each guardian and child receives a wristband with a barcode and ID number. Once all ID’s are established you’re allowed access beyond the gated entry and into the colorful and intricate play arena. No one is allowed to leave the facility without having their wrist bands checked and matched to their guardians. Having such an impressive security system is a relief as once you’re inside it’s easy to get separated during all the fun.

Just inside the entrance is an area of storage cubes to stash your belongings and shoes (you run around in socks during your visit). This area tends to get very busy. To avoid the congestion we skipped this area. Instead we piled our winter coats and shoes in our stroller then parked it in the very back of the facility. This was also our meeting place if anyone got separated.

Once we were ready to play, I channeled my inner hamster and we hit the human habitrail of tubes, nets, obstacle courses and slides that hovered above us. About mid tube I started reflecting on my age and questioned my sanity. Seeing the twinkle in my daughter’s eyes and huge grin on her face pulled me back into sharing this awesome kid experience with her.

The only line we waited in after entry was for the trampolines. We had a 5 minute wait for these. There are two trampolines side by side surrounded by nets. Only one person is allowed per trampoline and allowed to bounce for 2 minute turns. My daughter loves these and I am always surprised how long two minutes feels when I jump along  on the trampoline next to her.

The rainbow wave slides were probably my favorite. It was a fun obstacle climb to access them and we enjoyed racing each other down the slides. Plus I always won 🙂

It’s hard to get a consistent answer as to which part was my 4 year old’s favorite but the Ball Blasting area and obstacle courses seemed to be at the top of her list.

Another big aspect I really appreciated during our visit was the cleanliness. I noticed a pretty large staff of cleaners in all areas of the play space sweeping, wiping and spraying deodorizers. We were surrounded by hundreds feet and it wasn’t stinky. Best part, we did this adventure two days ago and no one is sick 🙂

Check out our video (taken at a later day, still just as much fun)

Tips:

  • Bring socks.
  • Dress in pants, jeans or leggings for more comfortable crawling through tubes and less sticking on the slides.
  • Pick a meeting spot if you get separated. (we actually did everything together so didn’t end up using our plan)
  • No outside food our drinks allowed. They have a cafe with reasonable prices. I did bring our own water which wasn’t an issue.
  • Monday – Friday are their quieter days with less congestion.
  • Free wifi  is available so you can set up at a table in the back with a laptop and work if your children are old enough to explore on their own.
  • Billy Beez offer babysitting in two hour segments, but this has to be arranged 24 hours in advance. Great idea for a date night at the movie theater or bowling alley within the same mall.
  • Birthday party packages look really fun.

I had a birthday party at Billy Beez today.
However, we are very disappointed with their service level.
We paid over $600 with this poor service.
We should choice another place for my child.
    I really regret…….
    Hope they would change.

that’s so disappointing. We’ve never had a party there, only open play. Thanks for sharing your experience.
