This beautiful Indian summer Thursday we decided to pack the car and hit the closest camping spot where we could bring Brooklyn’s canine sister, Bertha. We picked Clarence Fahnestock which happens to be only 45 minutes away from NYC. It’s our fourth time camping here, we absolutely love this convenient site.

Since we decided to camp same day,  it was too late to use the online reservation system, but it was a weekday so we were confident we’d be able to get a walk-up spot. We were surprised to be the only ones there though.

We arrived at our site (#53) a little after 5pm, put up the tent, hammock, built a fire then went hiking and fishing. My job tends to be packing everything up for camping. Monte’s job tends to be setting everything up once we get there…and teaching Brooklyn everything he knows. So I love camping once we get there 🙂

We had a mostly relaxing evening with the exception of getting our 4 year old to sleep. Once we did we enjoyed the conversations between the crickets and frogs. I have to admit late in the night I did get a little spooked that we were the only people there…but I think that’s what happens after you live in a city for so long. Empty spaces really aren’t spooky. I gotta work on that.

Not fit for print:

Brooklyn asked if we could put a piece of paper on the ground so the bugs could use it as a dance platform.

My kid is perhaps the best fisherman kid ever. And she casts like a pro. Oh, we didn’t catch anything.
